This Film was written by combat veteran Carlos Lopez Jr. of Sacramento, CA. Born and raised in Morgan Hill, CA , Carlos followed in the family's foot steps to join the military. Shortly after 9/11 attacks, Lopez deployed to Iraq, Kuwait, and Afghanistan completing 37 months in combat..
Searching for understanding of the life he served in war and in life after war, Carlos leaned on theater arts; production; directing; screen writing; and acting to offset his internal battle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. In his art, he carried a message that desired to expose the after war fatalities of 22 veterans a day takes their lives. Veterans who survive combat only to take their own lives in their communities. Enough was enough, and Carlos Jr. produced his message for the big screen. What started as a passion became a college project for film school and the movie, PTSD: An American Tragedy was born. The film received "the Film Fest Choice Award."
Carlos Jr. died soon after the film was completed in June 2018 of PTSD. His parents, Carlos and Juanita Lopez, submitted the film for recognition and debut at the Poppy Jasper International Film Festival. 2019. As his parents, we continue to outreach on behalf of PTSD and veteran issues including events sponsored by veteran programs including the American Affiliated Council of Sacramento, CA.
Federal Court Case against the Department of Veteran Affairs
Carlos L. Lopez Sr, et al v. the United States of America - Department of Veteran Affairs
On January 2024 Carlos's parents Carlos and Juanita Lopez brought a wrongful medical negliegence case against the Veterans Affairs doctors who treated their son. In this court case, the last doctor Holland admitted that she sanitized (change) Lopez Jr. medical records prior to his death. Medical doctors also admitted that they mistakenly gave Lopez Jr. the wrong dosages of medication the last month of his death. The judge Wilner sided with the VA and did not find enough evidence supporting our medical wrongful death during the 3 day trial. With the help of Mc Murray Hendriks LLP Legal Group, this case is moving for to the Appellate Court of Appeals. Further results pending.
